80 HP; 80 Miles per Charge - Smart Fortwo Electric Drive (VIDEO)
MotorWeek's Lauren Morrison was first on the scene in Miami Florida, driving the new 2017 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive.
Smart is now the only car manufacturer to offer their full model range with both gasoline and pure EV powertrains.
It's powered by a 17.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, which fully charged gives a range of 70 to 80 miles. The 80 hp electric motor sits at the rear, producing 118 lb-ft of torque.
It takes about 2.5 hours to charge from 0-80% on a 240V wallbox. On a 120V home socket, it takes about 13 hours.
Pricing hasn't been released yet, but Smart fortwo electric drive coupe models should be in dealerships in Spring 2017, followed by Smart Fortwo Electric Drive Cabrio models in Summer 2017.
