All-New Ford Escape to Debut in LA with 4-Cylinder Lineup
10.05.2011
With an eye on fuel economy, Ford will debut an all-new lineup of Escape utilities at next month's Los Angeles Auto Show. The lineup will feature a trio of four-cylinder options, including new 1.6 and 2.0-liter EcoBoost engines, as well as a 2.5-liter normally aspirated engine with variable valve timing. The 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine uses turbocharging, twin independent variable camshaft timing and direct injection to deliver the performance and feel of a larger engine.
Ford says EcoBoost increases fuel economy up to 20 percent, while reducing CO2 emission by up to 15 percent. The all-new Escape is expected to deliver even higher highway fuel economy than the current Escape Hybrid which is EPA-rated at 31 mpg. The Escape will no longer be offered with a V-6 engine or as a hybrid. The hybrid powertrain is shifting to the new C-Max Hybrid which will be introduced next year. (2012 Ford Escape shown)
