Apple’s comments are adding more fuel to the embers of speculation that the tech giant is indeed interested in building a car.  Apple is commenting on the Federal Automated Vehicles Policy.  In a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Apple says “The company is investing heavily in the study of machine learning and automation, and is excited about the potential of automated systems in many areas, including transportation.”  Here’s the link to their entire letter: https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=NHTSA-2016-0090-1115

Buick is racing ahead of the competition in an important area: reliability.  Buick came in third in Consumer Reports’ Annual Brand Reliability Survey. The organization says Lexus and Toyota ended up in first and second place respectively for the fourth straight year.  They say Buick’s third-place finish is “the highest for any American brand in more than 35 years”. 29 brands were tested.

 

Diesel powered vehicles will have to take a detour in four major cities in the world.  The Guardian is reporting plans are underway to ban diesel cars and trucks from the roads in Paris, Madrid, Athens and Mexico City.  It’s the latest move in the effort to fight air pollution.  The Guardian says the plans would be enacted by 2025.  

 

The road ahead is becoming much clearer for drivers behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz.  The German auto giant collaborated with two other companies to develop a new HD headlight system called "DIGITAL LIGHT".  Mercedes says the technology works with a-million micro mirrors in each headlight to improve visibility by adjusting to the surroundings.  Mercedes says they want to achieve optimum vision and maximum brightness without glare.  They say the hi-tech headlights will be shining on the road soon.
