If you‘ve never driven an electric vehicle, you probably have questions… and maybe even notions of what it’s like.  Audi is trying to clear up the mystery surrounding EVs.  They’re launching a national ad campaign.  Audi says the idea is to “debunk misconceptions around range, charging infrastructure and performance”.  The timing of the campaign comes leading up to the arrival of the 2019 Audi e-tron at dealers in May.

Range anxiety has been one of the main concerns when it comes to EVs.  Car companies across the board have made strides in adding miles per charge. The Audi e-tron has an EPA-estimated range of 204 miles.  Audi says buyers of premium vehicles drive an average of about 30 miles per day.  While the e-tron and other EVs can more than handle that, range anxiety still exists among drivers.

Charging is another issue.  The Department of Energy says “most plug-in electric vehicle drivers do more than 80% of their charging at home”.  However, at some point you’ll need a charge while out on the road.  There are more chargers than before, but more are needed.  Electrify America is planning nearly 2,000 chargers across 500 fast charging sites throughout 42 states and within 17 metropolitan areas by the end of 2019.

Manufacturers are approaching the electric trend in a variety of ways, but it’s clear electric vehicles will be a bigger part of the future.
