Ford is taking autonomous vehicles to the nation’s capital. The company will begin testing an autonomous fleet in Washington, D.C. Their operations terminal will be based in Ward 5, but the test fleet will roll out in all eight of the city’s wards. The District offers a variety of opportunities to see how the technology works. For city residents, self-driving vehicles could help bridge the gaps in public transportation. Commuters coming in from the suburbs and tourists also create a demand for ride-hailing and delivery services. Ford is working toward deploying a commercial service in 2021.
