Ford & Toyota to Develop New Hybrid System for Light Trucks & SUVs
Ford and Toyota are teaming up to develop an advanced new hybrid system for light trucks and SUVs. The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding today. By working together, Ford and Toyota say they will be able to produce full hybrid powertrains for light trucks and utilities that deliver higher fuel economy, without compromising capability. They also say that the partnership will bring the technology to consumers more quickly and more affordably. Specifically Ford and Toyota will jointly develop a new rear-wheel drive hybrid system and component technology for light trucks and SUVs, and independently integrate the new hybrid system in their future vehicles separately. For years, the two companies had been working independently on similar sytems.
