Hyundai’s upscale Genesis brand topped the annual J.D. Power Initial Quality Survey for the first time. The poll reflects the number of problems per 100 vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership. Genesis secured the top spot with only 68 reported problems. But, the Genesis rise to the top should be no surprise. Sister brand Kia has ranked first for two years, and this year is in second place with a score of 72. Parent brand Hyundai at 74, is in third place. This is also the first time Korean brands have occupied the three top spots, traditionally filled with Japanese brands like Toyota and Honda. Both, this year by the way, ranked lower than the industry average of 93 faults per 100 vehicles. The top European brand was Porsche in fourth spot, with the top American brand Ford ranking fifth.
