GM is shifting its global business plan.  The company says it’s “phasing out” the Chevrolet brand in India and South Africa.  GM’s Indian plants will export what they make.  Isuzu Motors will buy GM’s light commercial vehicle operations in South Africa.  GM says the move will allow them “to focus our resources on winning in the markets where we have strong franchises and see greater opportunity".  The changes are scheduled to take place the end of this year.

Volvo has a different strategy for India.  They’ll start making various models in the southern part of the country.  The first to roll off the assembly line will be the XC90 SUV.  Volvo says while the premium market in India is “still relatively small, it is forecast to grow rapidly in coming years”.  Volvo plans to begin manufacturing this year.

Volvo also has something new for American customers.  The company has announced the price for the 2018 Volvo XC60 will start at $41,500.  The mid-sized luxury SUV comes with three engine options, including an Electric Plug-In Hybrid.  You’ll have to wait until the fall to see the XC60 on U.S. car lots.
