High-Performance Ford Explorer Revealed
The Ford Explorer is going high-performance. The Explorer Sport version of the popular SUV will debut at the New York Auto Show. Ford says it has the highest projected fuel economy among gasoline-engine-powered, high-performance SUVs - achieving up to 16 miles per gallon in city driving and 22 miles per gallon on the highway.
“Adding an EcoBoost drivetrain to Explorer Sport delivers even more fuel efficiency and performance to the lineup,” said Bill Gubing, Explorer chief engineer. “This is our highest- performance, most capable Ford Explorer ever.”
The Explorer Sport features a paddle-shifted six-speed SelectShift Automatic transmission and can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Inside, the Sport version comes with charcoal black leather-trimmed seats and is available in four exterior colors – ruby red metallic clearcoat, white platinum metallic tri-Coat, tuxedo black metallic and ingot silver metallic. With unique 20-inch painted and machined wheels, the Sport also features blacked-out headlamp and taillamp treatments, black roof rack rails, and sideview mirror skull caps.
