Hyundai Motor Comapny will is expanding its Montgomery, Alabama engine plant to the tune of $173 million in order to build more four-cylinder engines. The Nu 4-cylinder will be used inside the Elantra, with the Theta 4-cylinder going into their larger vehicles - Sonata, Santa Fe and the Kia Sorrento. The work is scheduled to be complete this fall with new production beginning March, 2012.
The investment will create a much-needed 214 jobs in the state as well as boost engine production at the plant by 300,000 units per year, said Deuk Lim, CEO of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing America.
