The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is conducting what they call a “preliminary evaluation” involving 2012 Jeep Libertys.  NHTSA is looking into 44 complaints about the air bag warning light coming on while the vehicles were operated. NTHSA says in some cases it was reportedly corrected by replacing the Occupant Restraint Controller module. However, they also say some of the consumers kept driving after they were told the ORC needed to be replaced.  The Detroit Free Press reports “Fiat Chrysler says it is cooperating with the probe and that the only safety device affected is a head rest that moves to prevent injuries if a crash happens”.

Crunching numbers may not be fun, but an awful lot of people get paid to do just that.  And those numbers matter more than ever when you’re dealing with vehicle safety.  Loan company Title Pro sifted through 11-years’ worth of IIHS Top Safety Picks.  Their research shows between 2006 and 2016, Honda had the most of IIHS Top Safety Picks.  Toyota, Subaru, Volkswagen and Ford round out the top five.  Click here for the rest of the list.

Boston will be the next proving ground for self-driving cars.  CNN is reporting Lyft is teaming up with software maker nuTonomy to provide self-driving rides.  This is a “research partnership”, so they say a test driver will be in the driver’s seat to watch the car and step in if they need to.  The cars could be on the road in a few months.
