Wayne Gerdes and Chris Bernius, experienced “fuel economy drivers,” are getting ready to drive a factory-standard 2011 Kia Optima Hybrid 8,000 miles through all 48 adjoining states of America, attempting to break the Guinness Book record for lowest fuel consumption in a gasoline hybrid car.  Departing from Kia Motors’ manufacturing plant in West Point, Georgia today, they will travel in a clockwise direction through the nation before finishing in South Carolina on September 10.
