MotorWeek is looking ahead to the Tokyo Motor Show.  Mazda is giving us a glimpse of what they’ll show.  Their display will include a compact hatchback concept.  They’ll also show the SKYACTIV-X compression ignition gasoline engine.  The 45th Tokyo Motor Show 2017 runs from October 27 through November 5, 2017.

Hyundai has a vision of performance and economy.  They call it the “HyperEconiq Ioniq”.  Hyundai teamed up with Bisimoto Engineering in California to create what they say is “efficiency, aero and design to the highest level.”  Hyundai says the concept will get a combined fuel economy over 80 mpg.  That compares to the Ioniq Hybrid Blue’s combined 58 mpg.  This concept also comes with goodies like a Bisimoto Dream Aero kit and Recaro racing seats.  The “HyperEconiq Ioniq” concept will be on display at the 2017 SEMA show in Las Vegas in a few weeks.

General Motors is making another investment in self-driving cars.  GM is buying LIDAR technology company Strobe, Inc.  The deal adds Strobe’s engineers to GM’s Cruise Automation team.  GM hopes this will accelerate their efforts to bring autonomous vehicles to the market.
