Another victory for advocates of autonomous driving in the U.S.  Reuters is reporting the House of Representatives has approved a bill that would help bring the technology to the road.  Right now, federal rules require human controls on American roads.  Reuters says this new bill calls for car makers to show “self-driving cars are at least as safe as existing vehicles”.  The proposal would allow 25,000 vehicles in the first year, and eventually 100,000 vehicles a year. The bill now goes to the Senate.

Jaguar and Land Rover are stepping up their commitment to electric driving.  They have announced every one of their vehicles launched from 2020 will have electric motors as an option, whether fully electric, plug-in hybrid or mild hybrid vehicles.  They’re looking into the past as part of their vision of the future.  The Jaguar E-type Zero is on display at Tech Fest in London.  It’s based on the1968 Series 1.5 Jaguar E-type Roadster, but features an electric powertrain. The all-electric Jaguar I-PACE is also part of the event.  It goes on sale next year.  And just to make it really interesting, they’ve included the FUTURE-TYPE virtual concept.  It shows how the company imagines autonomous, connected, electric and shared mobility will be for 2040 and beyond.  Tech Fest opens to the public tomorrow and runs through Sunday.

Not to be outdone, BMW says they will offer 25 electrified vehicles, 12 of which will be fully-electric by 2025.  Of course, BMW is no stranger to EVs.  They already have the BMW i3, which is their first fully-electric production car. They plan to bring the technology to other models.  BMW says they will have ten electrified vehicles available this fall.

Want a brawny EV?  Bollinger Motors plans to build a 4-door version of its B1 all-electric sport utility truck.  The New York state company has revealed a sketch of what it will look like.  Adding 2 more doors means they’ll need to stretch the chassis by 9 inches to 159 inches.  The battery options will remain the same as their 2-door version: either 60 kWh or 100 kWh.  No word yet on when they’ll go on sale.
