Your smartphone could become an even bigger part of your life.

Toyota says it's working on a Mobility Services Platform that will have a variety of applications. Car sharing is one of the areas it's focusing on. Toyota has developed what it calls the Smart Key Box.  The box would be placed in the car-sharing vehicle, allowing users to lock and unlock the vehicle, and start the engine with their smartphone.

Toyota says this would be an improvement over tradition car-sharing services, by being safer and more secure.

Toyota is teaming up with car-sharing company Getaround for a pilot program.

They’ll start trying it out in San Francisco in January 2017.
