Volvo today revealed the 40 series, as the brand prepares to enter the small car market in the near future. These will be the first vehicles to use their new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), and will include full electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The CMA platform can be adapted for use in small car sedans, or compact crossovers. Volvo plans to have sold 1 million electrified vehicles by the year 2025.

The first iteration of the 40 series is expected to go into production in 2017.
