Volkswagen will unveil a five-passenger SUV concept based on the Atlas next week at the New York International Auto Show.

The two-row crossover will ride on the proven MQB architecture and be a smaller variant of the seven-passenger Atlas that won our 2018 Drivers’ Choice Award for “Best Large Utility.” While the model’s official name has yet to be released, our guess is that it will be called the Atlas Sport.

Additionally, the German automaker plans to manufacture the SUV at its assembly plant in Chattanooga, TN. Volkswagen says it will invest about $340 million in the plant on top of the $900 million it has already spent to accommodate Atlas production. The facility also produces the Passat mid-size sedan.

We’ll have more information on this and all the major unveilings next week in New York City.
