VW Previews Future Design With CrossBlue Coupe Concept
It’s the shape of things to come for Volkswagen. The German automaker unveiled the 2014 CrossBlue Coupe concept at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show. Yes, we know it’s not blue, and it does not have two doors. What the concept does have is coupelike styling – that is a long, broad hood, short frontal overhang, long roofline, as well as a short A-pillar and a swept-back C-pillar. Volkswagen says the concept is a preview of future Volkswagen design language.
“The disproportionate growth in the SUV segment gives designers the opportunity to implement an even greater diversification of models,” said Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design for the Volkswagen Brand. “The CrossBlue Coupé shows the potential of our Volkswagen design DNA and will undoubtedly have an influence on future SUV models.”
The CrossBlue Coupe has a plug-in hybrid powertrain. According to Volkswagen, a turbocharged direct-injection V6 gasoline engine works together with two electric motors to produce as much as 415 horsepower. The concept can travel up to 21 miles on pure electric power.
