Pets on Wheels
by Pat Goss
Traveling with pets has some challenges. The first thing that you want to do is protect the inside of the car, and to do that what we’ve selected here is this Canine Covers from Covercraft. Now this is designed in such a manner that it fits the individual vehicle. It’s tailored to your car. It comes in different colors, has ports for the seatbelts so that you can use various attachment devices for the pet or for passengers, plus the bottom of it is padded so that it takes care of those accidents that may happen.
This fellow is wearing a Ruff Rider Roadie harness. No, it’s not some medieval torture device. But what it amounts to is once you have it properly installed on the pet, on the dog in particular, this attaches to the seatbelts in the car and keeps the animal from flying around in case there should be emergency braking or an accident.
You may not elect to use something like that. You may want to use a pet carrier such as we have here. If you do, try to find one that has attachments so that it can be strapped into the back of the vehicle. You don’t want this up front. You don’t want it near the air bags or anything, which could create great hazard, not only for the pet, but for you as well. So strapped in place in the back of the vehicle.
Remember that you always have to keep water in the car, plenty of it, and don’t drink the pet’s water. Also treats, you know, pets get tired as they travel and they need treats. They need things to break up the monotony.
Now if you have a big dog or perhaps an arthritic dog, here’s something. This is the PetStep. And it gives them the ability to walk up into the vehicle. It keeps you from having to lift a heavy animal into the car. If you do these things, your pet will be safe, you’ll be safe, your car will be clean, and everybody’s happy.
