Our Success Story this week takes us to Boise, Idaho, where CNG gets the “stamp” of approval. Matheson Postal Services is one of the top 10 largest contract carriers for the U.S. Postal Service, transporting mail across the country. The company runs 286 long haul trucks, with 40 of those fueled with compressed natural gas.  Even as a fraction of the total fleet, those CNG tractors are already displacing some 780,000 gallons of diesel each year!

CHARLES MELLOR: “To put that another way, that’s 780,000 gallons of diesel that hasn’t been burned into the atmosphere. So the contamination from that has been removed with burning CNG and hopefully helping the environment.”

JOHN DAVIS: Results are so dramatic that Matheson plans to order 12 more CNG big-rigs this year.

And with help from partners like the Treasure Valley Clean Cities Coalition, they’ll soon have more mail travelling first class.
