2010 Chevrolet Camaro
It seems like everywhere we've been lately everyone has been asking "have you driven the new Camaro, yet?" Well, we can finally say "yes we have" and "yes it was worth the wait."
Chevrolet would have us believe that this is more than just a retro-styled muscle car aimed at the likes of Mustang and Challenger, but in Corvette fashion, a true world class sports car doing battle with all sport coupes no matter their country of origin.
Not sure we're ready to buy into that, at least yet, but the numbers certainly are in its favor. Starting with the powertrains, a 304 horsepower V6 is standard, while stepping up to the SS gives you a 426 horsepower V8. Both engines can be equipped with stick or slushbox, both with 6 speeds.
While the styling is not straight up retro, there are plenty of classic Camaro elements like the rear quarter panel "gills." It's a tough looking piece that looks even better on the road than in pictures. But, similar to the latest Mustang, it's out back where the styling falls short, with its "plastic-y" look and center crease line.
The retro-theme is a little more pronounced inside, with the dished out wheel, rectangular gauge housings, and separate dash and center floor console.
But, how was driving the new Camaro? Well, it was great! With its totally modern independent rear suspension, harsh mid-corner bumps are taken in stride rather than in fear, and both engines make more than enough power for cruise night profiling.
"It seems like we've been waiting forever, but the new Camaro is finally here. I was most impressed with the V6 engine. It gets almost as much horsepower as some of the competitor's V8's and gets 29 miles-per-gallon on the highway. That's an unbeatable combination." – Brian Robinson
Chevrolet hopes that the new Camaro will appeal to lifestyle buyers looking for a stylish car that gets good gas mileage along with old school muscle car guys and gals. So, no matter which group you fall into, Camaros are rolling into the dealerships now, and pricing begins just under $23,000.
