For 2010, the Land Rover Range Rover’s two-box silhouette changes little, but refreshed sheetmetal drives it further upscale, and a pair of new, more powerful engines move it there more quickly.

A three-bar theme echoes from the revised grille to new headlights and taillights to the tall rectangular fender vents. Wheels are 19 or 20 inches.

The HSE is powered by a naturally-aspirated version of the new Jaguar-derived, direct-injected 5-liter V8 making 375 horsepower-70 more than last year.

If 510 horsepower is more to your liking, the Land Rover Supercharged is the way to go. It sports a new twin-vortex Eaton roots-type supercharger that delivers power more quietly and efficiently.

Either way, that power is applied through a smoother-shifting six-speed ZF-automatic with paddle shifters.

The HSE is plenty quick, but with a 0 to 60 of under six seconds, the supercharged Rover is a blast. Whether out on the freeway or out in the woods, both benefit from a revised multi-mode Terrain Response system and new Adaptive Dynamics suspension.

In the spacious cabin, softer leather and materials adorn everything from the seats to the headliner.
Steering wheel controls have been reconfigured for easier use, and the new thin-film transistor screen instruments are easier to read.

On sale now, the 2010 Land Rover Range Rover HSE’s lofty prices start at $80,000. Supercharged starts for around $95,000.
