First Impressions
2010 MazdaSpeed3
Episode 2908
Factory-produced tuner cars are all the rage, but none other delivers the affordable fun of the MazdaSpeed3. And for 2010, this little turbo thrill ride comes with a handful of smart upgrades.
The most significant exterior change over the previous MazdaSpeed3 hatchback is the addition of a working hood scoop for better airflow to the intercooler.
The rear of the Speed3 now features a larger roof-mounted wing.
And down below is a new 18-inch aluminum wheel design wrapped in fatter performance rubber.
It may look more powerful, but engine and output have gone unchanged. The MazdaSpeed3’s 2.3-liter turbocharged four still produces 263 horses and 280 pound-feet of torque, channeled to the front wheels through a six-speed manual and a limited slip differential.
Mazda engineers have revised gearing for better power management throughout the band. Also, driveshafts have been optimized to help rein in the torque-steer so distracting on the previous MazdaSpeed3.
For greater cornering prowess, the suspension has been retuned with higher spring rates and larger diameter stabilizers. Overall response is also enhanced by a new electro-hydraulic steering system.
Emergency stopping power is enhanced with the addition of Brake Assist.
Inside, the MazdaSpeed3 combines a sporty cockpit with hatchback practicality for cozy room for five.
Detailed revisions include a new tachometer with the MazdaSpeed logo and a new LED turbo boost gauge.
Seats are covered in a MazdaSpeed-exclusive black fabric with red accents and stitching.
And you can get your “Zoom Zoom” on with the 2010 MazdaSpeed3 for just under $24,000 right now!
