2011 Toyota Sienna
With SUVs and crossovers being today’s family trucksters of choice, it’s easy to forget just how practical and convenient a well-designed minivan can be. Fortunately, Toyota hasn’t forgotten as they release the third generation of the Sienna minivan.
Looking more crossover than box, the new Sienna adds a bit of style to the less-than-exciting minivan market.
And a sporty new SE model, with unique fascias front and rear, as well as sill extensions and clear lens LED tail lights, offers something for parents or grandparents looking to maintain a younger image.
But, it’s what’s inside that makes or breaks a minivan. And here you’ll find plenty of space to go along with that style.
Three different interior themes are available, ranging from basic to sporty to luxury. The usual comfort amenities are offered, like power doors all around and a huge 16-inch wide video screen which can be divided into two screens in an attempt to keep everyone happy-or at least quiet.
Second row seating options range from a tip-and-slide bench with removable center section that stores easily in the rear, to reclining lounge chairs. While third-row seats fold flat into the floor with the pull of one handle. A power folding third-row will also be available.
Engine choices take a nod towards economy with a new four cylinder, the 187-horsepower 2.7-liter from the Highlander. The carryover 3.5-liter V6 produces the same 265 horsepower as before. With the V6, this Sienna continues as the only all-wheel drive minivan on the market, with run flat tires also an option.
While driving a minivan can never be described as a thrilling experience, the Sienna is a bit sportier than most. And the SE’s retuned suspension takes it a step farther.
“Minivans are by far the most practical vehicles out there, whether you’re hauling people or cargo, or both. And they’re much easier to maneuver than most crossovers. The new Sienna just takes that practicality in a slightly more stylish and fun direction.” Brian Robinson
The 2011 Toyota Sienna goes on sale in February, with prices starting under $25,000.
