2013 Cadillac ATS
Hot off the heels of the all-new XTS large sedan is another Cadillac endeavor- the equally new 2013 Cadillac ATS. The ATS anchors the Cadillac lineup, dropping down a size from the popular CTS to be a true “compact luxury sport” sedan, ready to take on the BMW 3-Series as well as other small sportsters from Audi, Infiniti, and Lexus. Indeed, the ATS comes ready to do battle, calling out the benchmark 3-Series with toe-to-toe spec sheet comparisons, and boasting 272 horses from the optional 2 liter Turbo, besting the Bimmer’s comparable engine. And from behind the wheel, we think it backs up its claims.
BEN DAVIS: It's amazing how such a comfortable car on the highway can do a complete 180 when you put it on the track. I mean, I'm exiting corners, I'm pouring on the power, and the car is just staying completely flat with plenty of grip... It was amazing, I kept having to remind myself I was driving an American made sport sedan.
JOHN DAVIS: While dimensions are similar, this Caddy’s no copycat of the 3. The ATS features the sharp angles and sweeping rearward flow that is today’s Cadillac. Edges have been smoothed from previous “Art & Science” shapes, however, and suggest what we found to be a more refined driving experience. The interior is decidedly Cadillac as well, building on their modern, simplistic theme. There’s no shortage of comfort or premium upgrades though, including the voice and touch activated CUE interface. As an attempt to round out Cadillac’s lineup, the 2013 ATS is a worldwide contender, and we walked away with some patriotic pride. Pricing starts around $34,000 for the base 2.5 liter I4, though the 2 liter Turbo I4 and 3.6 liter V6 push the ATS closer to 40 grand and beyond. The ATS will be available late summer.
