2013 Mini JCW Countryman
Despite its bubbly looks, and boy racer-ish body kit, this 2013 MINI Cooper Countryman crossover utility is nothing to scoff at. And that’s because the folks at John Cooper Works have given the biggest MINI a total overhaul.
Underhood sits a JCW tuned 1.6 liter twin-scroll turbo 4, good for 208 horsepower fed through an optional 6 speed paddle-shift automatic, a first for a JCW model. Power builds nicely, and we were dead on the factory 6.6 0-60 time. But a throaty exhaust note would make things even better.
The JCW package also adds a stiffer sport suspension; which still rode impressively well; variable assist steering, Brembo brakes, and aero and cooling ducts throughout the sheet metal. ALL4 all-wheel drive is standard, as well.
Interior space is impressive, with headroom to spare, and a decent storage capacity with the rear seats folded.
Starting around $35,000 and available now, the 2013 MINI John Cooper Works Countryman is hardly a small crossover bargain. But for MINI loyalists, it’s a great garage companion.
