2014 BMW 2 Series
If you’ve been keeping track at home, BMW has introduced quite a few new models into their ever-expanding lineup. And their latest in this game of numbers is the 2 Series.
Effectively the small 1 Series Coupe reborn, the 2 adds a little to length and wheelbase, and updates styling appropriate for a new model. Both outside and in, though, it is right in step with other recent BMW’s in quality, comfort, and class.
Currently, the 2 Series comes in two models: the 228i, powered by a 240 horsepower turbo inline 4 cylinder; and what we spent most of our time in at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in: the M235i, powered by a 320 horsepower turbo inline 6.
Yes that M, as in BMW’s performance house. The M235 gets M Adaptive Sport Suspension and Variable Sport Steering, as well as M Sport brakes. Though not a full on M model, there’s plenty of car here to tackle almost any track.
This car’s a serious machine. There’s really no other way to say it. With over 320 horsepower and over 330 pound feet of torque, and such a light package, I mean it just lends itself to so much fun. It sounds great, and on the road course, it’s so nimble. The steering response is so quick. And I’m just really having a blast in this car.
Standard transmission is an 8 speed automatic with paddle shifters. Purists can rejoice however, as a six speed manual is a no cost option. Either route, 0-60 clocks-in around 5 seconds for the M235i.
Available now, the 2014 BMW 228i starts around $33,000. The M235i adds 10 grand worth of upgrades, while a full-on M2 is rumored to be in the BMW pipeline.
Engine: Turbo inline 6 cylinder
