2016 Kia K900
While breaking into the luxury segment is never easy; for Korean brand Kia, it’s been a steep uphill climb for sure. But their first effort to really stretch, the K900, certainly impressed us after spending a year in our long-term fleet. Well for 2016, the K900 is updated in order to keep it chugging uphill.
Primarily, that includes a new standard 311-horsepower V6 engine that makes the K900 more attainable. And of course the 5.0-liter V8 remains available.
Both work with an 8-speed automatic that adds optional paddle shifters this year. But that’s under the skin.
Outside, there’s a new grille, wheels, chrome trim, exhaust tips, and tail lights.
While in the cabin, the 9.2-inch HD touchscreen dons updated navigation and a host of new features including UVO Luxury Services.
Safety systems are brought up to date as well, with Autonomous Emergency Braking. We found its operation consistent with the ultra-luxury feel of the rest of the car; stopping us just short of the barrier every time with grace.
And ride quality does indeed remain more elegant than nimble, with only a hint of sportiness to be found.
BRIAN ROBINSON: “When the K900 came out, there was certainly some sticker shock, but more in the ‘I can’t believe you can get this much car for that little money” vein. And now Kia has gone one step farther with the V6. And truth be told, the V8 was kind of just overkill. This V6 has plenty of power for this luxury cruiser.”
JOHN DAVIS: The new base price is now just under $50,000, and the 2016 Kia K900 is available now.
