After four years, Australian production has ended for the Chevrolet SS sedan. Most of our staff are sorry to see this rare, large, performance sedan drive off into the sunset. One described this rear-drive police car in civvies as being “dialed in perfectly”. We love being able to choose a 6-speed manual, and found it refreshing to grab the stout muscle car shifter and push a well weighted clutch pedal. Stepping on the gas produced the kind of rush we crave from its 415 horsepower 6.2-liter Corvette derived V8. The deep angry exhaust bark also fits it to a “T”. Magnetic Ride Control, 19-inch wheels and Brembo brakes added to our sublime ride.

Settling into the big comfortable heated and cooled front seats was easy, we just wish the interior was more driver focused. But, it’s complete with tech like lane departure warning, automatic parking assist and an 8-inch MyLink touch screen.

Overall, the SS brings the driving excitement we often find with small two doors to a big four door. And there are still plenty of 2017 Chevrolet SS’s on dealer lots, starting at under $47,000. Not bad for a potential collector car of tomorrow.
