Panamera, the first sedan to wear the Porsche name had its doubters when it arrived in 2010, but boy were they wrong. The second gen Panamera is now also off to a strong start with no less than three body configurations, including this extended wheelbase 2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo Executive.

This stretched Panamera grows almost 6-inches, though it’s still shorter than a lengthened Mercedes-Benz S-Class or BMW 7 Series.

Even before this Executive version came along, we felt the Panamera allowed for comfortable adult-sized backseat leg and headroom, and now much more so. Two 10-inch touch screens keep things entertaining back there, with a center controller for individual climate adjustments.

The long rear doors, add to the Panamera’s lower and leaner look. A 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 produces 550-horsepower that’s like a jet engine off the line. The 8-speed PDK gearbox shifts as confidently as ever. While it’s Porsche flat in corners, with air suspension providing a luxurious ride. Rear-axle steering is standard.

The 2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo Executive is certainly a luxury sedan and sports car all rolled into one, for those who prefer riding in the back seat. On sale now at about $160,000.
