Through 5-generations, the Subaru Outback has maintained a prominent position among family-sized crossover utilities, even though it’s usually viewed more as an all-wheel drive station wagon than a true SUV. In fact, Subaru often refers to the Legacy-based squareback as the first “Sport Utility Wagon”.

For 2017, a new top of the line Touring trim is added. This flagship trim includes new exterior cues; a dark gray grille insert, 18-inch wheels, lower cladding, and silver low-profile roof rails. Inside, there’s Java brown leather trimmed upholstery, a heated steering wheel and woodgrain interior finish. Subaru’s well regarded Eye Site safety system with adaptive cruise and automatic braking is also standard on the Touring.

Outback’s all-wheel drive powertrains continue to be driven by a 175-horsepower 4-cylinder, or 256-horsepower 6-cylinder boxer engines. The 2017 Subaru Outback is on sale now. Prices start at $25,645. The new Touring trim begins at $35,995.
