Lamborghini, on the other hand, pulled every trick they could out of their magic hat to make the 2018 Huracan Performante as track-focused as possible. Ever since we first saw it at the Geneva International Motor show, we’ve been eager to slip behind the wheel of this super car. And we did it at The Thermal Club raceway in California.

It's a balanced blend of old school and new rules. The snorty 640-horsepower V10 engine remains naturally-aspirated. It’s mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. In addition to the classic approach of lighter weight and higher horsepower, Lamborghini shows off their technical prowess; with a new carbon-fiber process, all-wheel-drive, four-wheel steering, and an innovative active aerodynamics system.

DAVE SCRIVENER: Lamborghini’s new ALA active aero system will actually channel air over or through the rear spoiler as needed, and give you asymmetrical downforce…giving you the most power, the most downforce, on the inside wheel of the corner.

JOHN DAVIS: The result is a rev-to-the-sky thrill ride with body-slamming acceleration, amazingly sharp steering, and a light, agile feel..whether in quick side-to-side transitions or in sustained cornering. Throttle modulation is tip-of-the-toes easy and power-on oversteer is always on tap to peg the fun meter. Lamborghini says 0-to-100 km/hr, that’s 62 miles-per-hour, takes just 2-point-9 seconds… making it the fastest… as well as the lightest Huracan in the stable… and truly a more insane car. The 2018 Lamborghini Huracan Performante is on sale now starting at just under $275,000.
