The 2018 Mercedes Benz S560 4MATIC moves with the majesty only a flagship can fulfill. This highly updated luxury and technology leader has 6,500 new parts to prove it.

A new generation of engines provides the punch, including a 362-horsepower biturbo-V6 S450. It was the 4.0-liter biturbo-V8 S560 that we drove around New York City however. And yes, there is a dip in displacement… but there’s still the same strong torque… and horsepower grows to 463. The 9G-TRONIC transmission always seemed to know how to handle traffic.

The S-Class’ semi-autonomous system, now called Intelligent Drive, expands duties. Upgraded from the E-Class, controls move to the steering wheel. Cruising speed now automatically slows for curves, while the body tilts in to handle centrifugal forces. Tipping the turn indicator puts Active Lane Change Assist to work.

Our search for something more potent led us to the driver’s seat of the Mercedes-AMG S63. The handcrafted biturbo-V8 also goes on a displacement diet… without sacrificing torque. Horsepower leaps to 603…. bringing more performance to S-Class luxury.

The full lineup of 2018 Mercedes Benz S-Class sedans, including the range topping V12 Maybach are rolling into dealerships now… with the S450 starting just under $90,000.
