In 1995, the Toyota RAV4 pioneered adapting a car-like unitize chassis to a small utility. That daring spirit continues in the 2018 Toyota RAV4 Adventure.

As the 6th trim for Toyota’s compact crossover, it adds a new sense of ruggedness with grey lower body guards, larger fender flares, and blacked-out grille, wheels, and trim.

Under the striped hood is the same 176-horsepower 2.5-liter I4 as the rest of the clan… with plenty of “go” for most people’s needs. A 6-speed automatic serves the front wheels or all four.

Ground clearance is a good 6.5 inches, the same as the SE, but about half-an-inch higher than other trims.

As soon as you slip inside the RAV4 you notice two things. First, how substantial it feels overall. The thing you notice is how comfortable it is in here. You could spend a lot of time in these seats.

Adventure also means more towing up a ton, with a max of 3,500 lbs with all-wheels working.

With an all-new RAV4 on tap for 20-19, the Adventure lets the 2018 Toyota RAV4 exit in rugged style. Dealers have them now, starting under $28,000.
