While it’s no big surprise that the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is the most capable Z06 ever, what may surprise you is that it’s also the most capable Corvette ever, able to turn lap times faster than even the latest ZR1.

Our first drive time came at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Nevada, and while it has the familiar feel of a Corvette, there’s a nasty streak under the surface that is aching to be released.

“Power is delivered in a fashion that’s best described as restrained brutality. Go easy on it, and it’ll play nice with you.  Get aggressive on the throttle pedal and the Z06 responds with equal viciousness.”

That’s thanks to the first supercharged power plant in a Z06.  The 6.2-liter LT4 now puts out 650-horsepower and 650 lb-ft. of torque.

There’s plenty of nastiness on the outside of the skin as well, with enough aero treatments to let people know that this car is designed with all-out performance as its number 1 priority.

We’ll have plenty more on the new Z06 real soon, so keep it locked on MotorWeek.
