MotorWeek’s Greg Carloss is first on the scene in Portland, Oregon driving the all-new 2017 Buick LaCrosse.

Even at a quick glance, touches from the striking Avenir concept are noticeable. The new face of Buick makes its production debut here with a largely open grille design and the return of the tri-shield insignia.

The LaCrosse is wider, lower, longer but also lighter by 300 pounds, which is most apparent when carving corners. No, it hasn’t become a performance car, but it has certainly gained some agility. An available active suspension further enhances the improved handling.

Offered in both front and all-wheel drive, a new direct injected 3.6L V6 hooks to an 8-speed automatic transmission and puts out 310-horsepower and 282 lb.-ft of torque. Highway fuel economy tops out at 31 MPG for front-wheel drive models.

The cabin sees major technology upgrades with a standard 8” touchscreen featuring both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Buick made nearly every design decision with cabin noise in mind, which results in most unwanted sounds being heavily muted.

Pricing starts at $32,990.
