Toyota has officially announced pricing for the 2022 Mirai fuel-cell electric sedan: $50,525  with destination fees included.

The 2022 Mirai is Toyota’s answer to the expanding zero-emissions luxury sedan market. This second-gen iteration is built on the rear-wheel drive GA-L platform, fitting snugly into the midsize sedan segment. This time, a more powerful fuel cell system provides an increased range of 402 EPA-estimate miles.

The RWD layout also allows for increased hydrogen storage when compared to the first-gen, front wheel Mirai; this goes in tandem with Toyota’s inclusion of up to $15,000 of complementary hydrogen with a purchase or lease. AN FCEV combines stored hydrogen with the oxygen in the air. The chemical reaction produces an electric current to power the vehicle and water-- the only “emission” from the vehicle.

To better induce this chemical reaction, an electric “supercharger” has been built into the Mirai. It’s an electric air compressor which pressurizes intake air paired with a water-cooled intercooler to decrease the air’s temperature. An electrostatic air cleaner cleans the air of ultra-fine particles.

Technology on the Mirai is not limited to the drivetrain; Toyota’s Safe Sense 2.5+ comes standard. This suite of safety features and assists include a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alerts and Tracing Assists, Automatic High Beams, and Road Sign Assist. A separate Blinf Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert is also standard.

The entry level Mirai XLE features SoftTex-trimmed and heated seats. Standard on both the XLE and Limited trims is an 8-inch gauge cluster and 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It features connectivity tech, like Android Auto, Apple Carplay, Amazon Alexa compatibility and SiriusXM satellite radio-capabilities. Available on the XLE is an Advanced Technology Package that includes a Bird’s Eye View Camera, Front and Rear Parking Assist and Front Seat Foot Illumination.

The word “Mirai” means future, and the 2022 Toyota Mirai is expected to arrive at dealerships in the near future, this December.
