Automotive News reports that U.S. auto safety regulators are saying there are almost 85 million unrecalled Takata airbag inflators in U.S. vehicles that will eventually be recalled. This is unless the company can prove the product’s safety.

This information comes in just two months after several manufactures added more vehicle to the recall list making it a total of 28.8 million inflators recalled. According to Automotive News this is the first public accounting by the U.S. government of the total number of unrecalled Takata airbag inflators. Click here for the full story.

NHTSA has received the list of vehicles from automakers that are affected by the recent expansions of the Takata air bag recalls. Vehicle identification numbers (VINs) included in these recalls are now available on NHTSA’s VIN look-up tool or the manufacturer’s website. If your vehicle is included in this recall, follow up with the manufacturer to get interim guidance.
