Acura has unveiled the MDX Type S, touted as the brand’s most powerful, best handling, and most lavishly equipped Acura SUV to date, and is expected to arrive in dealers this December.

The Type S trim has been geared more towards driving enthusiasts. Built upon the rigid MDX platform, this 3-row SUV is equipped with Acura’s new turbocharged V6, channeling 355 horsepower and 354 lb.-ft. of torque through a “Super Handling All-Wheel Drive” system with torque vectoring. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, Acura claims the 2022 MDX Type S to be the brand’s most powerful SUV to date.

Other performance upgrades include a tuned chassis with double-wishbone front suspension and the first air-suspension system used on a factory Acura. Four-piston Brembo front brakes increase stopping power, while Acura’s Adaptive Damper System improves stability.

In the way of driver assistance and safety, the MDX Type S features the AcuraWatch safety suite, with Road Departure Mitigation, Traffic Jam Assist, Driver Attention Monitor, Pedestrian Sensing and Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Traffic SIgn Recognition.

Interior accoutrements include Milano leather seats with Ultrasuede inserts, a race-inspired flat-bottom steering wheel, metal sport pedals, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. This is paired with an additional 12.3-inch HD center display.

An optional Advance Package adds full Milano leather with a special quilting pattern to both front and middle seats as well as massaging front seats. A new 25-speaker ELS STUDIO 3D sound system is also available.

Pricing on the MDX Type S is expected to start in the high-$60,000 range. Reservations for either the Type S or Type S Advance are now open.
