BMW has showcased the all-new X7 Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), announcing a Q3 2022 launch for the revised model.

The new X7 will feature an updated design more in line with BMW’s current flagships. Powertrain options have also been updated with the inclusion of mild hybrid tech for both engine variants. A new XB7 ALPINA edition will launch early 2023.

Those engines include the 4.4-liter M TwinPower Turbocharged V8, available in the X7 M60i, and the 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-six engine, available in the X7 xDrive40i. The six-cylinder has been given a 40 horsepower boost up to 375, and the V8 is capable of 523 horses. Both engines utilize the 48V mild hybrid technology, andeither engine will mate up to a new eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, outfitted with Launch Control and a Sprint function. By pulling the left paddle shifter for at least one second, the transmission drops into the lowest usable gear, providing a quick burst of speed when needed. Integrated into the X7 M60i is a special Active Steering system and Active Roll Stabilization, now standard.

The exterior is spearheaded by the “love it or hate it” kidney grille design, presented with new grille bars in a bi-color and chrome finish-- and to really stand out is an optional illuminated kidney grille on the xDrive40i, standard on the M60i. The front fascia on either is updated with more surface area, integrated air curtains and a body-colored finish.

In back, three-dimensional sculpting redefines the rear end. The LED light sources from a single unit with the glass covers; L-shaped rear lights double as brake lights and house the turn signals. The XB7 will be defined by four oval tailpipes derived from a srt exhaust system.

Inside, occupants will be greeted by a curved display utilizing BMW’s iDrive 8 system, comprising one 14.9-inch Central COntrol Display and a 12.3-inch information display for the driver, underscored by an ambient light bar. The center display and driver’s screen merge together to create a new full digital experience; however, the display is angled more so towards the driver for ergonomics sake. The center console now bears a new control panel, gear selector and Driving Experience COntrol buttons.

The multi-contour seats are now standard on the xDrive40i, crafted with the expected assortment of high-quality materials and now heated. In terms of sustainability, much of the plastic trim pieces are made from recycled materials and a vegan surface material, Sensafin, covers the interior-- available in Black, Silverstone, Cognac and Coffee. Extended Merino leather is standard on the M60i, but optional on the xDrive40i.
