Blue Goes Green as New York City Adds Volt to Police Fleet
New York City's men and women in blue are going green. Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the city is adding 50 Chevrolet Volts to its municipal fleet as part of efforts to cut air pollution, carbon emissions and gasoline consumption. The Volts will be used by various agencies, including the NYPD as patrol cars. They will be the first electric cars for the city police department which also uses hybrids, electric scooters and golf carts. A total of 70 new electric vehicles are being added to the city's fleet, bringing the total to 430, the largest municipal clean-air vehicle fleet in the nation.
