BMW will globally introduce the updated 2023 8 Series and M8 Competition at The Amelia-- one of the world’s most prominent concours d’elegance events-- this weekend.

The event is taking place between March 3rd-6th at The Ritz-Carlton of Amelia Island, Florida. The Amelia will also serve as the kickoff point for BMW’s 50 anniversary celebration of the iconic M line of performance vehicles.

The 2023 BMW 8 Series can be configured as a coupe, convertible and Gran Coupe model, featuring an updated and illuminated “twin kidney” grille, an array of new exterior colors, and a variety of technologies inside the cabin. All three configurations will also see a performance-oriented iteration, manifested in the M8 Competition.

All 2023 M8 Competitions will be powered by a 4.4-liter V8 engine. Combined with BMW’s M TwinPower Turbo technology, it will put out 617 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to an 8-speed “M Steptronic” automatic transmission, then distributed to an M xDrive all-wheel drive system. Combined, this package boasts an approximate 0-60 mph time of 3 seconds and a max speed of 190 mph (when the M Driver’s Package is added). Additional chassis tuning, as well as standard Adaptive M Suspension, help stabilize the M8 Competition.

The 50 year celebration will be headlined by 50 vehicles, one from each year of M’s history. Joining the historic lineup will be a restored 1980 M1 (above), a 1999 V12 LMR, and a 2023 BMW iX M60, the first electric performance SUV designed by M.

These vehicles will be on display during the Cars & Caffeine car show this Saturday, located on the show field in front of the BMW stand.
