The Toyota Corolla is back for the 2022 model year and with it comes two unique trim options: the Nightshade and Apex Editions.

The Corolla Nightshade features black trim across various parts of the body and blacked-out 18-inch wheels. The lower rocker panels, front valance, door handles, mirror caps, satellite antenna, rear roof spoiler and inner headlight frames all receive the Nightshade touch.

The Nightshade Edition is available in three different colors: Black Sand Pearl, Classic Silver Metallic or White. Consumers may also choose to outfit their SE Nightshade with an available six-speed manual transmission, outfitted with modern assistance technology. An automatic CVT transmission is also available. Either choice is paired up with the Corolla’s 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, putting down 169 horsepower and 151lb.-ft. of torque.

The SE Nightshade Edition, after delivery and handling fees, starts at $24,350.

The performance-oriented Corolla consumer may find the Apex Edition to be more up to speed. Available on either the Corolla SE or XSE trims, the Apex Edition comes with a specially tuned suspension, a sport catback exhaust and custom styling by way of an aerodynamic body kit with bronze accents.

Unique coil springs lower the car 0.6 inches, lowering the center of gravity for improved cornering. An increased spring rate helps reduce body roll and enhance steering response.

The Apex is equipped with the same 2.0-liter 4-cylinder as the Nightshade, as well as the same two transmission choices: the CVT or the 6-speed manual; however, the manual is only available on the SE trim. It can be lacquered in either Black Sand Pearl, White or the exclusive Cement color. Both the White and Cement options feature a Black Sand Pearl roof; all come with special black mirror caps.

The SE Apex Edition starts at $26,345. Contrary to the norm, the SE Apex with the six-speed manual increases the price by nearly $400.
