Word continues to circulate that the Hummer name will be revived by General Motors for a series of electrified pickup trucks, and perhaps large SUVs. Word is the new Hummer EVs will be sold through GMC Dealers, perhaps with the tag “Hummer by GMC”. If the multiple sources are correct, the new Hummer pickup will be announced during the upcoming Super Bowl in a commercial also featuring NBA superstar LeBron James. If the new Hummer is real, it should arrive in early 2022. GM is also expected to build at Chevrolet branded EV pickup in the same Detroit assembly plant. Two years from now the market could be flooded with electric trucks from not only GM, but Ford, as well as newcomers Rivian, Bollinger, Tesla, and other. These trucks are seen as a hedge against the potential tightening fuel economy standards in California and other states. The stand-alone Hummer brand was killed off in 2010 following the GM bankruptcy.
