On the eve of Ford’s official unveiling of the Mustang flavored all-electric MACHe crossover utility,  Automotive News reports that GM is planning to build an EV version of the full-size Cadillac Escalade SUV. According to their sources at LMC Automotive, the Escalade will likely be built alongside an EV version of the GMC Sierra pickup, and two other vehicles, at Detroit’s Hamtramck assembly plant. The plant was recently saved from closure by a new contract with the UAW union. GM has already said Cadillac will be their core EV brand but the battery Escalade is not expected to be the first of the brand’s EVs to arrive. From an earlier Cadillac teaser photo, that first EV SUV appears to me more in the mid-size class. The Escalade EV may not be available until 2023. Rumors also are flying that one of the other vehicles to be built at Hamtramck will be a full-size EV van that will be along the lines of the Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter. GM current big vans, the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana, are of an old short-nose design that originally debuted in1995.
