The COVID-19 virus has a new automotive victim. Faced with mounting corporate losses and collapsed gasoline demand and prices, Ford Motor Company has decided to cancel its much-heralded Lincoln EV that would have used partner Rivian’s skateboard chassis. The pull back comes only three months after the project was announced saying it would go on sale in 2022. The unnamed EV would have used the same skateboard all-electric platform as Rivian’s planned RS1 SUV and RT1 pickup truck. Speculation was that the Lincoln model would also be a family sized SUV. The story, as reported by Automotive News and others, also says that Lincoln is still expected to field an EV but perhaps using an inhouse developed chassis instead.
