The Maserati GranTurismo is back from a temporary absence, returning for soon with a new lease on life.

This Italian coupe is back with a re-upped design playing on its distinct silhouette, but the most interesting changes are those under the hood. The GrandTurismo’s V8 engine is gone, replaced by a V6 and, for the first time in Maserati history, an all-electric powertrain.

The internal combustion engine is standard: a Nettuno 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 capable of two different performance figures depending on trim. The Modena will pump out 490 horsepower, and the high-performance Trofeo model will beef that up to 550 horses. Going all out means swapping ICE for BEV, as the GranTurismo Folgore’s foundation is a 92.5 kWh battery, powering three 300 kW motors to achieve 760 horsepower at the wheels. Explicit range and charging times are yet to be confirmed.

From the outside, it still features the same long hood and shortened rear proportions from previous GT models, but many of the lines are subtly shifted into a sleeker form with a greater emphasis on curves. Unfortunately, the interior is a bit of a mystery for the time being. Maserati claims the new cabin to be equipped with various systems, like the Maserati Intelligent Assistant, the latest infotainment and an optional Head-Up display.

When it launches, the new GranTurismo will be offered up with a limited PrimaSerie 75th Anniversary Launch Edition, featuring “exclusive content.” That being said, official launch dates and expected pricing are yet to be announced.
