Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) is celebrating a 40 years of stateside operations with two special editions models.

The 40th Anniversary Outlander expands upon Mitsubishi’s seven-seater flagship SUV, offering unique cosmetic enhancements and top-trim conveniences. This special equipment package is available on both the 2023 Outlander and Outlander PHEV.

Both models receive essentially the same treatment. The most obvious and unique part of the whole package is the Black Diamond paint job contrasted by a bronze-colored roof, creating a special two-tone effect. The 40th Anniversary models are outfitted with door and cargo scuff plates, a rear bumper protector and Dynamic Shield Illumination. Of course, you can expect to find 40th Anniversary badging, plus a chrome “Outlander” hood emblem for a little extra flair.

The 40th Anniversary Outlander starts at $41,340 after tacking on the $1,345 destination and handling fee, with the PHEV starting at $51,340. They’re built off of the top-trim Outlander SEL Premium and Outlander PHEV SEL Premium respectively. Those two trims come packed with amenities, like a 10.8-inch Head-Up Display (HUD), semi-aniline leather appointed seats, a power panoramic sunroof, a Bose 9-speaker sound system and more.

We recently drove the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV for ourselves and found it to be a relatively engaging experience, bringing some enticing features (like DC fast charging) to the plug-in realm.
