Among the bright spots during the ongoing pandemic have been the surge in sales of outdoor entertainment gear and that includes off-road and dual-purpose motorcycles. The Motorcycle Industry Council reports that both categories rocketed up in popularity during the first half of 2020. Off-road bike retail sales rose an amazing 50.3%, while dual-purpose bikes jumped 20.9%. The council notes that riding dirt and trail bikes has always been a great way to spend time outdoors with the family, and now even more so. Off-highway motorcycles include dirt bikes, trail bikes, competition motorcycles, and other motorized two-wheelers that cannot be used on public roads. Dual-purpose motorcycles are street legal and are also designed to be used on off-road trails. As if to accentuate the current national “staycation” trend, on-road bike sales dropped 9.6% in the same period.
