Tesla has unveiled the highly anticipated Model 3.  As the event took place, thousands of people waited in line in Tesla showrooms to put down their $1,000 deposit. So far more than 115,000 people have made reservations for the Model 3.

Like every Tesla, the Model 3 is engineered to combine range, performance, safety and utility. Its design maximizes interior space, to fit 5 adults and all of their gear. Tesla claims a zero to 60 time of less than six seconds. And when equipped with electric all-wheel drive, the Model 3 provides all-weather traction.

According to Tesla, the Model 3 is designed with safety as a priority, to ensure it’s the safest car in its class once testing completes. The Model 3 has a range of over 200 miles, and will start at $35,000 before incentives.

Production for the Tesla Model 3 will begin in late 2017.
